Drive Safely Work Week: Corporate Plan of Action
Establish
a DSWW planning committee. Recruit a small team of people who will be responsible for
planning and implementing the campaign. Each
team member should be assigned specific tasks before and throughout the
duration of the campaign. Together they should review the campaign materials
and use this plan of action as a guide to plan the week’s events.
Promote
the campaign in advance. There is a lot you can do to alert
employees about your participation in Drive Safely Work Week. To help
raise awareness before the week of the campaign:
- Publish the campaign’s Newsletter Article in your company’s newsletter
or other interoffice publication. To enhance the article, include one
of the campaign’s Cartoons.
- Display the Poster in a central, high-traffic location.
- Enlist your company’s CEO
to officially designate October 4-8, 2004 as Drive Safely Work Week
using the Proclamation.
- Send your employees the official DSWW E-Greeting Card on the DSWW
CD-Rom to welcome them to the campaign.
- Get employees involved by sending them the campaign Screensaver
available on the DSWW CD-Rom, which they can use year round to remind
them to drive safely.
Think
big and get the community involved. Use the Press Release and alert local media about your company’s efforts to promote safe driving within the community. Personalize it with staff quotes and company information. Be sure and send the Campaign Backgrounder to the media for traffic safety facts relevant to this year’s
campaign.
Focus
on one of the campaign’s
five safe driving behaviors each day of the week. Plan each day of the
workweek by focusing on one of the safe driving behaviors. Distribute one
Fact Sheet per day and supplement them with electronic Flash Media and
Workplace Service Announcements, activities, and incentives.
Build
your own campaign. Just
because the campaign focuses on five driving behaviors doesn’t mean you
have to focus on all five this week. You may wish to choose one of the
safe driving behaviors and build your campaign around it. You can save
the other behaviors and their supporting materials for use throughout the
year.
During
the week utilize all of your communication outlets to get the word out. All of the campaign’s Workplace Service Announcements can be tailored to different messaging tools, including voicemail, e-mail, the company’s
intranet, and company newsletter. For example, record one of the DSWW Safety
Ads at the end of your voicemail message, or include one of the Daily Campaign
Announcements at the end of your e-mail.
Schedule
a presentation for your employees. Use the DSWW Employee PowerPoint Presentation to explain DSWW and why their safe driving is important to you. Make the presentation more interesting by incorporating one of the DSWW Activities into your presentation.
Make
your campaign fun and memorable. Reinforce the campaign’s safe driving behaviors by incorporating some of
the DSWW incentives including the Scratch and Play Cards, Auto Dash Pads,
Policy Jackets, and Litter Bags into your campaign plans.
Tell
us about your campaign. We
enjoy hearing about how different companies created and implemented their
DSWW campaign. With so many different resources
and tools available this year, companies are sure to find even more
creative ways to impress their employees, while promoting safe driving
practices on
and off the job. Tell us about your DSWW campaign at jduhoski@trafficsafety.org.
